Project:

Аdiponectin and certain other metabolic risk markers and their relation to abdominal obesity among pre-school children

Project leader: Prof. Violeta Yotovа, MD, PhD, DSc

Abdominal obesity among Bulgarian pre-pubertal children is comparable to that among children from some of the most obese nations, and it is known for a high-risk factor for cardio-metabolic diseases. The aim of this study is to find a relationship between the levels of increased metabolic risk markers and the degree of abdominal obesity in early childhood. Healthy 4-6 year olds will be investigated through auxological, laboratory and imaging studies, and their parents will complete a survey. An expected contribution is establishing the level of the metabolic markers and their correlation with the degree of abdominal obesity at this age, as well as the detection of the severity of modulating risk factors.
