  1. Please, introduce yourself.

My name is Prof. Joseph Fadare, a 1994 graduate of the Varna Medical University. I am from Nigeria and presently work and live in Nigeria. I came back to Nigeria after graduation and specialized in Internal Medicine (sub-specialty of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics). I presently am the Dean of the Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences in the College of Medicine, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, South-west Nigeria. I teach undergraduate medical students the discipline of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics. I also work as a consultant physician at the associated teaching hospital (Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria) where I train postgraduate residents in the discipline of Internal Medicine. I also have the Erasmus Mundus Master's degree in Bioethics from the consortium of Katholieke University, Leuven, Belgium, Radboud University, Nijmegen and University of Padova, Italy.
My research focus is in the area of drug utilization and pharmacoepidemiology (including geriatric pharmacotherapy, pharmacovigilance), antimicrobial resistance and stewardship, clinical trials, generic medicines and research ethics.
I do collaborative research with colleagues from Africa, Europe and the Americas and I am an active member of the International Society of Pharmacoepidemiology (ISPE) and Medicines Utilisation Research in Africa (MURIA) group. I was recently recognized as one of the topmost 2% scientific researchers in the world by the Stanford University (USA).

Internal Medicine and Pharmacology

Yes

5. Who advised you to study a medical specialty?

Nobody. I was fixated on studying Clinical Pharmacology

6. Which is the most difficult clinical case in your practice?

When I have cases I am unable to make proper diagnoses because of lack of equipment of facilities

7. What would be your message to Medical University – Varna for the next 60 years?

I want the university to continue to recruit students from Africa especially Nigeria. I believe the two countries have a lot to benefit from this relationship. I would also want the university to use some of the alumni as ambassadors to help market the university in Africa and beyond.
