Students and members of the academic staff of the Department of Histology and Embryology at "Aristotle" University of Thessaloniki in Greece visited the Medical University of Varna on 3rd and 4th December 2018. Assoc. Prof. Soultana Meditskou and Assoc. Prof. Theodora Papamitsou from the University in Thessaloniki were met by Prof. Vanya Goranova, Assoc Prof. Stoyan Pavlov and Assistant Prof. Desislava Marinova, who acquainted them with the training facilities and the educational process at the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at MU – Varna. Joint scientific projects and possibilities for joint research between PhD students from the departments of the two universities were discussed.
The representatives of "Aristotle" University also met Vice Rector for International Relations Prof. Todorka Kostadinova with whom they discussed the signing of mobility agreement and possibilities for initiating students' and academic staff exchange within the framework of "Erasmus+" programme. The guests from Thessaloniki were invited to participate in the International Partnership Forum in October 2019.
The first agreement for academic cooperation between the Medical University of Varna and "Aristotle" University of Thessaloniki was signed in 1994 and since then the scientific exchange and joint scientific symposia have been a tradition not only between the anatomy departments but between many pre-clinical and clinical departments. With the visit of the two Greek professors from "Aristotle" University, organized by the Department of International Relations, these active relations have been resumed and the willingness and serious intentions for new common initiatives have been reconfirmed.
