Medical University of Varna will host the first workshop on a topic less discussed not only in Bulgaria but all over the world the problem for the disorders of sex development. The workshop will be held on 24-25th January 2014. The event is entitled "Workshop on laying foundations for future co-operation in the field of disorders of sex development (DSD) in Bulgaria", it is aimed at laying the foundations of increasing awareness of this not so well-known field and will subsequently develop consensus guidelines.
Over 40 specialists from different fields of medicine – pediatricians, endocrinologists, urological surgeons, geneticists, gynecologists, radiologists, neonatologists, and psychologists will take part in the event. For two days, with the help of experienced specialists from the Netherlands – Prof. Dr. Stenvert Drop - pediatrics and endocrinologists and Dr. Arianne Dessens – psychologists the main problems in the field of disorders of sex development in Bulgaria will be outlined.
The initiative is parallel to the project COST BM 1303. COST is an intergovernmental framework for European Cooperation in Science and Technology, in which 31 countries participate. MU-Varna, represented by the Department of Pediatrics and Medical Genetics together with the Clinic of Pediatric Endocrinology at the University Hospital "St. Marina" won the project "COST BM 1303" in March last year.
