The European Nutrigenomics Organisation Invites Young Scientists to Create a Special Collection of Scientific Articles

The Annual Report Meeting of the European Nutrigenomics Organisation (NuGO) was held on 24th September 2020. The full membership of Medical University "Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov" dates back to 2014. In view of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the meeting was held online with representatives of all members of the Organisation, which by the end of 2019 have already become 29 universities and research organizations in Europe, Asia, Australia and North America. Our University was represented by Prof. Diana Ivanova, who is a member of the Management Board of NuGO.

For many years on end the membership in the European Nutrigenomics Organisation has provided the scientists at Medical University - Varna with the opportunity to participate in annual scientific conferences with preferential fees, to share the results of their own research in the database dbNP: The Phenotype Data Infrastructure, and to have access to primary data from similar studies that may be used for in silico analyzes. Furthermore, young scientists and doctoral students have been given opportunities to participate in scientific and practical training courses and research exchange with scholarships granted by the Organisation.

One of the major missions of NuGO is to provide a forum for researchers in the field of Nutrigenomics at the beginning of their scientific career and to support their training and career development. Through NuGO Early Career Network, young scientists, PhD and postdoctoral students in the field of molecular and personalized nutrition have the opportunity to share their opinions, needs and problems, and to receive advice and support from senior members of NuGO.

Today, NuGO Early Career Network invites young scientists, NuGO members and their mentors to participate in a joint initiative proposed by Frontiers for Young Minds (Frontiers open source journal, written by scientists, reviewed by children and adolescents) for the creation of a special collection of scientific articles on Nutrigenomics. Researchers, in a team with their young colleagues, who are at the very beginning of their scientific career, are invited to present a short abstract of their own scientific article (original research or review) recently published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal. The initiative provides a unique opportunity for young scientists to present the most interesting concepts of their research in accessible language to the next generation of bright children who are about to choose the path of science.

The deadline for applications and abstracts is 15th October 2020. The applications will be assessed by a NuGO committee and the editorial board of Frontiers for Young Minds on the basis of criteria including: scientific impact in the field of Nutrigenomics, originality and clarity of the submitted text. Approved candidates will be offered the opportunity to transform their article into an accessible short text for a target audience aged 8-15 (see examples at: http://kids.frontiersin.org/ ). More details about the initiative are available on the website of NuGO Early Career Network: NuGO Early Career Network.
