Representatives of Thomson Reuters Consortium visited Medical University - Varna and presented new options of Web of Science database. Web of Science is used for finding various data on the indicators for science, e.g. the number of scientific publications in different fields, citations, impact factor of scientific journals and many others. Correlation matrix for professional branches and fields of science of the international Web of Science database was used in the methodology of the Ranking System of Higher Schools in Bulgaria. For that purpose the team of Thomson Reuters cooperated directly with the Ministry of Education and Science and provided special extracts from its database, covering all publications and categories.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Academic Clinical Research Organization (ACRO), the library and publishing house of MU-Varna, the research department, and representatives of the University management.
Tsvetelina Dimitrova – an official representative of Thomson Reuters for Bulgaria demonstrated the potential of a new option for creating institutional profiles in Web of Science database. Such an academic profile (world leaders such as Harvard University and Humboldt University were given as examples) encompasses all possible affiliations of the university, hospitals, centres and organizations with which it has been working, projects, in which it has been included, as well as all derivatives of its name and the names of its authors. This in turn makes the access to any kind of information related to the academic institution much easier, systematizes data by set criteria and increases its visibility in the scientific sphere.
