Academic staff training has started for work with the most modern electronic learning platform “Blackboard”

A total of 45 university teachers from the Faculties of Medicine, Dental Medicine, Pharmacy, Public Health and the Sliven affiliate to the Medical University of Varna will be trained to work with one of the most common platforms for electronic learning worldwide "Blackboard".

The introduction of the "Blackboard" system as a complementary part of the students' training at the Varna University is within a project called "Development of electronic forms of distance learning in the system of the Medical University of Varna" to OP "Human Resources Development" which the higher school started last year. During the first two stages, a centralized e-storage and electronic multimedia manuals were initiated. Currently, the last stage of the project implementation is under way – the instruction of the teachers, the ultimate goal of the platform launching being that all the academic staff makes use of its methods in the students' training.

During the courses the teachers will be acquainted with the best world practices and trends in the field of interactive methods of electronic learning. After the successful completion of the course, they will be able to freely utilize all the functions of the system – to create and manage their own electronic courses, including the creation of electronic diaries, discussion on specific assignments, texts and course papers, generating records for the students' achievements. 

Blackboard is a world leader in the development of software for training and communication. The statistics indicates that the platform is used by 70% of the universities in the USA, 80% of the universities in the UK and almost all universities in the Netherlands.

The project "Development of electronic forms of distance learning in the system of the Medical University of Varna" is part of the general strategy for the development of the Medical University of Varna. In its essence, it is aimed at the overall modernization of the educational and teaching process and the administrative structures in order to achieve uncompromised quality of training and education.
