A team of the Faculty of Dental Medicine and the Medical College at MU-Varna has won a project in the competition "Scientific Research Funding in Priority Areas - 2014" of the Scientific Research Fund of MES. A Laboratory of prototyping technologies is going to be equipped, utilizing the funds of the winning project. The new equipment will contribute to a new higher level of the technology used for producing dental constructions during the training of students - direct 3D printing of wax models from virtual 3D models.
The project "3D Printing and Its Application in Modern Methods of Treatment in Prosthetic Dental Medicine", headed by the Dean of the Faculty of Dental Medicine Assoc. Prof. Tsvetan Tonchev, was given the maxim number of points and was ranked first out of a total of 245 projects in the field "Health and Quality of Life, Biotechnology and Ecological Foodstuffs, Including Research in the Field of Agrarian Sciences". A 3D printer and a scanner for the equipment of the laboratory are to be purchased with the funds, amounting to 225 000 lev.
The implementation of yet another innovative technology is a natural continuation of the ambitions of the academic management of the Faculty for development and modernization of the teaching process in accordance with the world standards, as well as for improvement of the quality of training in Dental Medicine, as well as the integration of the training in the major Dental Technician at MC.
