MU-Varna Joins the European Public Health Week

MU-Varna joins with online events the Second European Public Health Week, which takes place from 11th to 15th May 2020, under the motto "Joining forces for healthier populations". This is an initiative of the European Public Health Association (EUPHA), supported by WHO Regional Office, the European Commission and a number of universities and NGOs, and is aimed at raising awareness on important public health issues. The key message is that governments, scientists, health professionals and civil society must work together to cope with the pandemic, and that promoting public health is now more important than ever.

In response to the European appeals, MU-Varna joins the international events with three initiatives, prepared by lecturers and students at the Faculty of Public Health at MU-Varna and MU-Vi.tv. These events are a part of the initiatives of the Bulgarian Public Health Association (BPHA), whose member is MU-Varna.

The initiative "Universities for Health Promotion" is presented by Petya Boncheva, PhD student at the Department of Social Medicine and Health Organization https://youtu.be/gBfIr9W394Q. Training Sector Rehabilitation Therapist presents tips to improve body posture during distance learning. The advantages of computer knowledge transfer are indisputable. Nevertheless, under the conditions of a pandemic, the insufficient physical activity deepens, the time spent sitting and using mobile devices increases. The video includes information on disorders that could occur due to improper body posture, and a short set of exercises to enhance concentration and improve body posture. https://youtu.be/_7DJC5Ws0HM

The third initiative of MU-Varna in the European Public Health Week focuses the attention on healthy ageing. It is represented by Assoc. Prof. Nevyana Feschieva, President of the Bulgarian Society for History of Medicine.

The EUPHA initiative, co-funded by the European Union Health Programme and supported by WHO Regional Office, was launched with a webinar in Brussels, with the participation of representatives of the European Commission, WHO Regional Office, EUPHA, the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies, the European Nurses Association, etc.
