A working meeting regarding the specific commitments in the implementation of the procedure for opening an affiliate of the Medical University of Varna in Shumen took place a few days ago at the Office of Governor Ventsislav Venkov.
During the meeting the Medical University of Varna was represented by Assoc. Prof. Emanuela Mutafova – Dean of the Faculty of Public Health and Prof. Sonya Toncheva - Head of the Department of Nursing Care. Ivan Ivanov – Member of Parlament, Krasimir Kostov - the Mayor of Municipality of Shumen, Sedat Kadir –Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Shumen and the Director of the Specialized Hospital for Active Treatment of Pneumophthisiatric Diseases – Dr. Ventsislav Valchanov participated in the meeting, too.
The participants in the meeting confirmed their commitment for the next months in order to successfully start the training in the Affiliate for midwives and nurses in autumn of this year. So far, a self-assessment report has been prepared which will be deposited at the NAEA soon. It was agreed that the training process begins on the premises of the Specialized Hospital for Active Treatment of Pneumophthisiatric Diseases.
The invitation by the district and municipality management to the Medical University of Varna to open its affiliate in Shumen is explainable. The Medical University has a high reputation among the Shumen population because of the successful functioning of the Medical College in the period 1950 – 2005 (within the structure of MU-Varna since 1998). Moreover, health professionals in Shumen are mainly graduates of the Medical University of Varna. The University is preferred by them as an institution for postgraduate training in many specialties in the field of healthcare and nursing care.
