The highest Nephrology Forum in the country this year is under the auspices of “Prof. Dr. P. Stoyanov” Medical University and “St. Marina” University Hospital - Varna.
Over 170 renowned European nephrologists from over 20 countries, including Germany, Great Britain, Switzerland, Italy and others, will take part in the scientific event as guest lecturers. The President of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN), the President of ERA-EDTA and the General Secretary of the Danube Association of Nephrology are among them. There will be sessions on the latest issues of Nephrology, as well as special ones on Peritoneal Dialysis and Renal Transplantation. This year's recipient of the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa of the Medical University - Varna - Prof. Hans-Peter Marti, an eminent specialist in the field of Renal Transplantation, will participate at the scientific forum, as well.
The forum will
commemorate the 40th anniversary of Clinical Nephrology at Medical University - Varna. Nowadays this young and dynamic specialty has found its modern embodiment in the Department of Nephrology, Acute and Peritoneal Dialysis with Renal Transplantation Activities and Apheresis at “St. Marina” University Hospital in Varna. All of the approved methods for diagnosis of renal diseases, as well as a wide range of possibilities for their treatment - from medical therapy to techniques using blood purification apparatus and kidney transplantation are applied here. It is remarkable that 12 living donor kidney transplants have been implemented here since 2009, the last two of which have been performed in the current month.
Besides getting together outstanding specialists, the Danube Symposium will be a venue for training medical students, postgraduates and PhD students of Nephrology. A special course dedicated to contemporary treatment of glomerulonephritis and chronic renal failure, as well as a training session on Nephropathy Histology will be conducted. Training sessions on “Laboratory Diagnostics in Nephrology” and “Imaging in Nephrology - Clinical Cases” will be conducted for the first time.
