biochemistry lecturers from all Bulgarian medical institutions participated in
the 3rd National Biochemistry meeting, organized by the Association of the Bulgarian
Biochemistry Departments (BBDA) with the kind cooperation of the Department of Biochemistry, Molecular
Medicine and Nutrigenomics at MU – Varna. The meeting was carried out from 14th
to 16th November at the “Therma” Palace, Kranevo (Municipality of Balchik).
The meeting was presided over by Prof. Vanio Mitev, PhD - Rector of MU – Sofia, Chairman of the of the Rectors’
Council of Bulgaria and Head of the Department of Medical Chemistry and
Biochemistry at MU – Sofia.
All the heads of the biochemistry departments from different medical universities were present for the first time in the fourth-year history of the BBDA. During the meeting, important issues were discussed such as the topic of biochemistry education, including the foreign students' training, the funding of scientific research in Bulgaria, the problems of preparing and conducting the procedures under the Public Procurement Law, as well as the basic principles of the strategy for the Bulgarian higher education development. Special attentions was paid to the willingness of all biochemistry departments to participate with scientific and infrastructural projects in the Operative program "Science and education for intellectual growth" after its approval. The new medical standards in biochemistry were discussed as well.
The scientific theme of the program was: "Molecular, biological and biochemical predictive measures and diagnosis markers". Eleven young scientist, PhD students and post-graduates of different priority scientific fields presented the results of their work. The next meeting of BBDA is going to be held in October 2015, hosted by the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the Medical Faculty of MU – Plovdiv. The meeting will be organized at the proposal of the BBDA secretary - Prof. Diana Ivanova, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Head of the Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Medicine and Nutrigenomics at MU – Varna.
