"Stroke in Bulgaria" was among the main lectures of the ninth World Stroke Congress, which took place from 22 to 25 October 2014 in Istanbul, Turkey. It was presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Silva Andonova, PhD, from MU-Varna in co-authorship with leading neurologists from MMA and the Medical Faculty of Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski - Prof. Dr. Ekaterina Tityanova, D.Sc. and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Irena Velcheva, PhD from St. Naum University Hospital of Neurology and Psychiatry and Medical University - Sofia.
Two posters created by teams of authors from Second Neurological Clinic at St. Marina University Hospital, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. S. Andonova, entitled "Intravenous Thrombolysis in Acute Ischemic Stroke - Five Years of Clinical Experience" and "Treatment of Acute Stroke in Patients with Anticoagulant Therapy", were presented at the scientific forum.
By tradition, the Congress, held under the auspices of the World Stroke Organization (WSO), began with a training course in the field of diagnostics and treatment of acute ischemic stroke, differential diagnosis of stroke, early neuroimaging methods in the acute stage of stroke. The main topics in the programme were related to major clinical multicenter studies devoted to the etiology, epidemiology and stroke diagnosis. The main accents were modern recanalization strategies for acute ischemic stroke - intra-arterial thrombolysis and thrombaspiration.
