The researchers from the Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Medicine and Nutrigenomics took part in XXth International Congress of Nutrition which was held 15 – 20th September 2013 in Granada, Spain. The Congress was entitled „Joining Cultures through Nutrition" and over 4000 participants from 120 countries attended the 6 plenary and 32 specialized lectures, 90 parallel symposia and 45 poster sessions.
The most significant scientific achievements of the Department in the field of nutrigenomics so far were presented in three of the sessions. The conducted research on the relation between nutrition and lifestyle in a sample of Bulgarian population were reported in the session "Nutrition, public health and environment". The results from the pilot study conducted by the team on the levels of inflammation markers TNF-α, IL-6 and the lipid profile in healthy volunteers after one-month application of herbal extracts were presented in the sessions "Achievements Nutritional Science" and "Functional Foods and Biologically Active Substances", respectively.
Within the Congress framework, a working meeting was held with the partners of the project "NutriTech", in which Varna Medical University participates. The first report was discussed at the meeting and the guidelines for the execution of the forthcoming tasks were outlined for the working packages of the project.
