International seminar on biomedical sciences took place from October 30 to November 3 in Varna Medical University and the University hospital "St. Marina" – Varna. In the seminar participated representatives of the universities from Haifa, Jerusalem, Berlin and Varna.
In the framework of the forum it was organized a working meeting with the Rector – Prof. Dr. Krasimir Ivanov and the Ambassador of Israel N. P. Shaul Camisa – Raz. During the meeting the aspects of collaboration were discussed between Varna Medical University and the partners from Israel. On the meeting were Prof. Dr. Krasimir Metodiev – Chairperson of the Department of Preclinical and Clinical Science and Honorary Consul of Israel in Bulgaria.
Emphasis was put on the joint educational and scientific projects such as the foundation of a Center for bone-marrow transplantation in Varna and training of the specialist form Varna in the university hospital in Hadassah. A couple of months ago Dr. Chervenkov and Dr. Staykov from the university hospital "St. Marina" – Varna specialized in this field. They were trained by the renowned specialist in bone-marrow transplantation – Prof. Dr. Reuven Or.
A scientific session with presentations in 10 disciplines in the field of biomedical sciences took place the next day. Main lecturers were representatives of the Universities in Haifa (Prof. Edi Barkai, Prof. Avi Karni, Prof. Gal Richter-Levin), in Jerusalem (Prof. Reuven Or), in Berlin (Prof. Georg Wassilew, Katharina Wassilev, Prof. Jorg-Wilhelm Oestmann) and in Varna (Prof. Anton Tonchev, Prof. Krasimir Metodiev, Prof. Ara Kaprelyan, Assoc. Prof. Metodi Abadzhiev).
Among the guests of the event were the Varna City Mayor – Ivan Portnich and the District Governor Ivan Velikov.
There were two working groups – one for the educational aspects of collaboration and another for the scientific aspects of collaboration between the three partmers in the end of the second day. A new course of training in antiterrorism (conventional and medical aspects) is planned to be launched in the framework of the educational projects. The possibilities for guest lecturers exchange between Haifa, Berlin, Jerusalem and Varna were discussed as well. In the frame of the scientific projects the focus was the steps for establishing a Center for innovations and research at Varna Medical University.
The active cooperation in the field of biotechnologies and bone-marrow transplantations, development of business projects such as clinical research and new medicines will reveal new opportunities for scientific and clinical results in the sphere of medicine, pharmacy and biotechnologies on an international scale.
