A great leap in the world academic ranking system in less than a year
During the last academic year 2013/2014, Medical University "Dr. P. Stoyanov" - Varna achieved remarkable progress in its presence in the world academic space.
Ranking Web or Webometrics Ranking is the greatest academic ranking of the World Universities. Since 2004, an independent and open scientific evaluation has been published twice a year by Cybermetrics Lab (Spanish National Research Council, CSIC) in order to provide multifaceted, up-to-date, useful and reliable information on the work of the Universities worldwide, based on their presence and scientific activity on the Web.
All the world universities have been covered, and since 2008 – research centres, hospitals and business schools, as well. Language of study: English.
In less than a year, MU-Varna has improved its indicators in Webometrics Ranking with an average of more than 25%. A threefold higher leap has been achieved in some of the indicators - over 70%.
As a result, in the ranking for Bulgaria, among all Bulgarian universities, MU-Varna has moved up from 17th to 9th place, this is the highest position compared to the other medical universities in the country. For Europe, the leap is with more than 300 positions, and in the world ranking - with nearly 3 000 positions, up to 4 079th.

To interpret the results, we should recall briefly the indicators, on which the Laboratory rankings are based.
(1) 50% of the index is compiled by its VISIBILITY on the Web (Impact in the table).
(2) The other 50% are supplemented by the VISIBILITY on the University Web.

More than 5 000 undergraduate, doctoral and postgraduate students are being trained in the field of Human and Dental Medicine, Pharmacy, Health Care and Health Management at the Faculties and Affiliates, as well as at the Medical College of MU-Varna. The increase in the number of international students is remarkable, about 700 students from 34 countries, from all continents, with the prevailing number of students coming from EU member states -Germany, Austria, Great Britain, Greece, Italy, Cyprus, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland. This fact itself is an indirect indicator of the high quality of education that the University provides.
