Lecturers from the Department of Chemistry Won the Best Poster Award at a Conference in Constanta

Lecturers from the Department of Chemistry at Medical University - Varna took part at the international conference "FOOD CHEMISTRY & ENGINEERING", which was held on 15 and 16 May 2015, at Ovidius University in Constanta, Romania. The best poster award was given to "Comparison of heavy metal concentration of some marine fish from the Black and Aegean Sea" created by Assoc. Prof. Lyubomir Makedonski, Assist. Prof. Katya Peicheva and Assist. Prof. Stanislava Georgieva.

In this scientific research the team of MU-Varna has compared the levels of toxic elements in fish from the Black Sea and the Aegean Sea. The researchers have discovered lower levels of toxic elements, and on the other hand, higher concentrations of the content of health essential elements in the Black Sea fish.

More than thirty posters were presented at the scientific forum. Besides the first award winning poster, the team of MU-Varna participated with another poster: "Organochlorine contaminants (PCBs, DDTs, HCB & HBDE) in fish from Lake Varna and Lake Beloslav, Bulgaria" authored by Assist. Prof. Stanislava Georgieva, Prof. Mona Stancheva and Assoc. Prof. Lyubomir Makedonski.
