During the official graduation ceremon
y of the third commencement of physicians in dental medicine which is to be held from 10:30 a.m. on October 19th in the Festival and Congress Centre in Varna, the annual prize of the Dean of the Faculty of Dental Medicine will be awarded in the name of Prof. Dr. Slavcho Davidov.
All the graduates from Commencement 2013 who have excellent average academic score not lower than 5:50 can compete for this recognition. Besides the excellent results from their academic studies, the special disciplines and the practical examinations, they have to meet additional requirements, among which volunteer activities in the implementation of screening programmes in the field of dental health, participation in projects, involvement and contribution to the University structures, contribution to the enhancement of the specialty's image. The students' assessment will be carried out by means of a credit system, the maximum total score for the academic results being 30 credits and the additional criteria being 4 credits.
All who wish to compete for the prize of the Dean of the Faculty of Dental Medicine can apply at the Dean's office in the Faculty of Dental Medicine until 15.10.2013.
Prof. Dr. Slavcho Davidov was born in Kyustendil. He studied dental medicine in Leipzig, Germany. In the period 1928-1935 he was an assistant professor at the University Clinic for Dental Jaws in Leipzig and later an assistant professor at the University Medical Clinic in Sofia. Prof. Davidov is the founder of the organized treatment and the teaching of maxillo-facial surgery in Bulgaria. He was also the first dean of the first Department of Dentistry in Bulgaria, which was established in 1942 at the Medical Faculty of Sofia University. Author of the first textbook in dental surgery in Bulgaria.
The prize of the Dean of the Faculty of Dental Medicine in the name of Prof. Dr. Slavcho Davidov has been awarded since 2011 and the first who was awarded this prize was the best student from the first commencement of dental physicians Dr. Iliana Atanasova.
