New Donor Situation at St. Marina-Varna Saves the Lives of at Least 3 Seriously Ill Patients

A four-hour multi-organ explantation from a donor - detected, diagnosed and conditioned by the medical teams at St. Marina University Hospital - Varna, was performed in the operating theatres of the hospital during the night of 9 April 2016. Highly specialized medical procedures were carried out by a team of various specialists from the University Hospital in the seaside capital, together with cardiac and thoracic surgeons from Klinikum Grosshadern – Munich, and abdominal surgeons from Hospital CHARITE-Berlin. Due to the excellent organization and coordination between the doctors at St. Marina, the Executive Agency for Transplantation, EMAC, Eurotransplant and the above-mentioned hospitals in Germany, at least 3 severely ill patients for whom transplantation is the only chance for life will receive a healthy heart, healthy lungs and a healthy liver.

​The doctors at St. Marina University Hospital - Varna express their condolence to the relatives of the deceased donor for their tragic loss, as well as their deepest respect for the humane and moral decision to donate, made at this sorrowful psychological moment.
