Assoc. Prof. Boryana Kavaldzhieva, a long standing lecturer at the Faculty of Public Health at Medical University-Varna, passed away, after a severe illness.
Assoc. Prof. Kavaldzhieva was an appreciated and admired lecturer, a recognized expert in Bulgaria in the field of environmental hygiene and occupational medicine.
In the period 2007-2012, she was the head of the Department of Hygiene and Disaster Situations at MU-Varna and conducted courses in Healthcare Hygiene, Occupational Medicine, Environment and Health, Nutrition and Health, Ergonomics and Labour Organization in all Bulgarian and Russian-language training programmes of FPH and the Faculty of Medicine.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Boryana Kavaldzhieva was born on 23rd May 1948, in the city of Novi Pazar. She graduated from high school in Novi Pazar and in Medicine in St. Petersburg, Russia (St. Petersburg State Medical Academy) in 1972. Then she started working at the Department of Labour Hygiene at HEI - Varna and as a part-time Assistant Professor at the Department of Hygiene and Occupational Diseases at Medical University - Varna.
Assoc. Prof. Kavaldzhieva was an active participant in trade and professional doctors' organizations, and in the academic life of the Faculty of Public Health. Many of us had the honour of being her students and colleagues.
A memorial service will be held tomorrow, 24th March, at 10:00 am, at the Central Cemetery in Varna.
