The folklore ensemble of Medical
University - Varna was the only Bulgarian participant which presented our
country with dignity at
the 18th International Festival of Brass Bands and Folklore Ensembles FEDO,
which took place from 1st to 4th September 2016 in Zlin, the Czech
Republic. More than 50 participants from Hungary, Slovakia, Serbia, Bulgaria,
Romania, Lithuania, Croatia, Slovenia and the Czech Republic took part in the
festival.
The girls and
boys from the folklore ensemble of MU-Varna, with an artistic director Diana
Dimitrova, blew the audience away with their performances of the Bulgarian
dances “Shirto”, “Zadyavka” (Banter), “Pirinski”, “Shopski”, “Dance without a
Name” and “Balkan Syndrome”, dancing on stages, squares and streets in the city
during the two consecutive days. With the dynamic
performances of folk rhythms, the future medics managed to tempt the local residents
to join the Bulgarian horo. During the festival the student Hilyal Mehmed
performed two folk songs and impressed the audience with her beautiful voice.
After the long and stormy applauses
of the audience, which accompanied the performances of the students from the
folklore ensemble of MU-Varna during the festival programme, the organizers
chose precisely Bulgarian performances to close the festival.
“Quite deservedly,
the students from MU-Varna proudly waved our flag to the sounds of the Bulgarian
rhythms during the traditional procession along the streets of Zlin and were
acclaimed by diverse audiences. I’d like to say thank you to all students of
MU-Varna, who presented Bulgaria, to the band that accompanied the performances
during the regular rehearsals all summer long, for the flawless presentation of
the University, the city and our country on the international stage,” said the
artistic director of the ensemble Diana Dimitrova.
