Dr. Boleslav Lichterman, D.Sc. - head of the Department of History of Medicine at our partner I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University was a guest at Medical University-Varna on 19th August 2016. He was warmly welcomed by Prof. Todorka Kostadinova - Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, Accreditation and Quality. His visit was accompanied by a workshop, which involved also Assoc. Prof. E. Mutafova - Dean of the Faculty of Public Health, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nevyana Feschieva - president of the Bulgarian Society for History of Medicine, Aneta Dokova, PhD - head of the Department of International Cooperation, Boris Kalinkov – the person in charge of the Museum of the History of Medicine in Varna and the museum collection of MU-Varna, the expert on international cooperation Siyana Boynovska and the lecturer in the Department of Social Medicine Assist. Prof. Martin Mirchev.
The main topics discussed at the meeting were related to developing ideas on the history of medicine in Bulgaria and MU-Varna, exchange of best practices, training programmes and modules on the history of medicine, joint publications in the Moscow scientific journal "Meditsinskaya Gazeta", devoted to social medicine.
The opportunities for exchange of students and lecturers, organization of joint conferences between the Departments of Social Medicine, a summer school for doctoral students in the field of history of medicine were also discussed.
Prof. B. Lichterman visited the Museum of the History of Medicine in Varna, examining with great care the exposition and the new artifacts, presented by Boris Kalinkov. The guest highly appreciated the contribution of MU-Varna to the recovery and expansion of the museum activities in the field of history of medicine and its incorporation in the training process.
The workshop is a major step towards expanding the areas of academic and cultural cooperation between MU-Varna and First Moscow Medical University.
