Children with Oncological Diseases Who Had Been Treated at St. Marina University Hospital Won Medals at the Games of Winners in Moscow

Fifteen children from Bulgaria who finished their treatment for different malignant diseases participated at the traditional International Children's Games of Winners, which were held between 29 June and 3 July, at CSKA Moscow Sports Complex. Six of these children were treated at the Clinic of Pediatric Onco-Hematology at St. Marina University Hospital - Varna.

The three-day competitions were held under the motto "After the history of disease, the history of victory follows". 500 children from 16 countries took part at the Games, competing in table tennis, 60 m running, swimming, chess, archery and football. The children from the Bulgarian team participated in all sports competitions and won altogether 18 medals - 8 gold, 7 silver and 3 bronze medals. "The children were happy for being able to compete at the Games and for making plenty of new friends. The slogan "Bulgari – Yunatsi" (Bulgarians-Heroes) did not subside during the three competition days and was recognized by everyone attending the Games as the slogan of the Bulgarian team /Bolgarskaya kamanda/," said the doctor of the Bulgarian team Assoc. Prof. Valeria Kaleva, Head of Department of Pediatrics at MU-Varna and Head of the Clinic of Pediatric Clinical Hematology and Oncology at St. Marina University Hospital - Varna.


The event was organized by Give Life (Podari zhizn) Russian Charity Fund, and the Association "Children with Onco-Hematological Diseases" was in charge of the entire organization on the Bulgarian side for fourth consecutive year.​
