Medical University of Varna Launched Its Own Repository

Medical University of Varna launched its own Repository: an open access scientific research portal for the research output created by its academic staff. The formal name of the Repository is Medical Academic Repository

The Repository is an open access electronic archive; its aim is to store, share and preserve any suitable research material produced by the University's researchers and to make sure that it is available to the widest possible audience. It is an open resource that will be made available to the public. Currently the Medical Academic Repository has more than hundred dissertation summaries deposited (doctoral and post-doctoral), with resumes both in Bulgarian and in English, along with an online textbook. Our Repository is an open access institutional repository.

Open access repositories are substantial part of the global research infrastructure. The open access to publications and research output is an underlying principle in the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation Horizon 2020. A key part of the new global repository infrastructure is the DART-Europe (Digital Access to Research Theses – Europe) portal. Our Repository is already listed on the DART-Europe Portal, endorsed by LIBER (Ligue des Bibliothèques Européennes de Recherche), so you can see your publications on its site as well.

The advantage of being part of it is that all thesis and dissertations deposited there can be easily searched via Google, Google Scholar, Yahoo, along with sites as Researchgate or LinkedIn with higher visibility and accessibility.

Institutional repositories showcase the intellectual capital of their universities and maximize the visibility and impact of their outputs, provide increased and proper citation, together with long-term archiving. Besides the individual benefits for authors, institutional repositories also merit serious benefits to institution's status, reputation and prestige.
