By an Old Bulgarian Tradition, MU-Varna Welcomed the Foreign Students with Bread and Salt

The official opening of the academic year for students in the English Language Training Programmes in the majors of Medicine and Dental Medicine was held yesterday, 27th September, at Medical University- Varna. By an ancient Bulgarian tradition, the foreign students were welcomed at the University campus with bread and salt. The Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Albena Kerekovska welcomed and greeted the freshmen on behalf of the Rector of MU-Varna Prof. Dr. Krasimir Ivanov.

The foreign students were fascinated by the Bulgarian folk dances performed by the ensemble of MU-Varna, the performance of the nine-year-old laureate of international awards Monika Parusheva and the talented graduate student of the Faculty of Medicine Rumyana Kirneva. The evening ended with the first lesson – the steps of the Bulgarian folk dance called Pravo Horo, which the freshmen and their lecturers danced with emotion.

More than 1200 international students from more than 40 countries are to be trained at the higher education institution during the academic year 2016/2017. The number of newly admitted students is about 250, and the highest number come from Germany and Great Britain.
