Shumen Affiliate at MU-Varna Launches a Social Health Project in Cooperation with Business

 A joint social health project of Shumen Affiliate at Medical University - Varna and the Bulgarian-Turkish Chamber of Commerce was launched at Zdravets Pensioners' Club №1 in the city of Shumen. The event was opened by Mr. Ventsislav Venkov, Executive Director of the Bulgarian-Turkish Chamber of Commerce and Prof. Sonya Toncheva, Director of Shumen Affiliate. Students studying Nursing and Midwifery measured the arterial blood pressure and pulse of the pensioners from the region, who were also given advice on health and longevity.

 
Higher quality of life of the elderly people, enhanced health awareness and promoting a healthy lifestyle are just few of the goals of the project participants. The health activities will be performed by the students at the Affiliate of MU-Varna in Shumen, under the supervision of their lecturers. Besides measuring blood pressure and pulse, the future health professionals are going to prepare presentations on healthy lifestyles and will teach the elderly people the rules of self-help and mutual aid. The students in Social Pedagogy and Social Work Activities at the University of Shumen "Bishop Konstantin of Preslav" are going to join the project in the autumn.

Students and business come together to lend a hand to the elderly people in order to help them live an active and healthy life because good health adds life to years!
