Japanese Journal Published a Scientific Study on a Rare Clinical Case by a Student at MU-Varna

The prestigious Japanese Medical Journal for Stubborn and Rare Diseases "IRDR" has published a scientific paper by Ivan Valkadinov, a fifth-year student at MU- Varna.

The paper entitled "Rare Cases of Ameloblastoma with Pulmonary Metastases" was published on 7th August. It has provoked the editors' interest because the case described is extremely rare. The author examines the histological presentation of a classical ameloblastoma, which is a rare low-grade odontogenic tumor of epithelial origin. It is a benign tumor which forms metastasis even after successful treatment. Such behavior is not characteristic of benign tumors, which makes the case not just rare but unique.

Ivan Valkadinov has written his paper under the scientific supervision of the Head of the Department of Medical Oncology at University Hospital "St. Marina" – Varna Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ivan Donev and Dr. Nikolay Tsonev from the Department of Propedeutics of Internal Diseases and Assist. Prof. Dr. Deyan Dzhenkov from the Department of General and Clinical Pathology, Forensic Medicine and Deontology at MU-Varna. Its writing has taken about a month. The reporting of the case to the medical community turned out to be a more difficult task than expected, but with the collaboration of the team the ultimate goal was achieved.

The fifth-year student hopes that through this publication more medical specialists would get aware of this clinical issue. This could be the key to addressing the diagnostic and, above all, therapeutic challenges that this tumor presents.
