Approximately 1 500 First-Year Students Have Crossed the Threshold of MU-Varna

The new academic year 2020/2021 has been opened today (14th September 2020) at Medical University - Varna with a solemn blessing for health and welfare, served by Father Yasen from the Metropolitan of Varna and Veliki Preslav. The event took place in the southern park of UMHAT "St. Marina" - Varna. 


The Rector Prof. Dr. Valentin Ignatov welcomed the students who crossed the threshold of the University for the 59th time in a row, "We take pride in the fact that every year the best ones cross our doors, those who have succeeded in excelling themselves over the others under the ever-increasing competition. In the coming years you are about to meet prominent and well-established  lecturers - experts in the field of Medicine and Healthcare. You will have the opportunity to gain knowledge and prove your potential.

Representatives of the first-year students in the programmes of Medicine, Military Physician, Dental Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing Care, Midwifery, X-Ray Laboratory Assistant and Rehabilitator who have achieved the highest admission scores took the traditional for the first day at MU-Varna "Oath of Dedication to Medicine". The excellent alumni of Medicine of Class 2020 Gabriela Panayotova, Aleksandar Yordanov and Ersin Ismail put white coats on their new colleagues to symbolically integrate them to the medical community.



Prof. Ignatov wished the students fair winds and following seas and adhering to the ancient Bulgarian custom poured water in front of the first-year students, whose number this year is approximately 1 500, including 300 international students.

For the fourth year MU-Varna has also welcomed the first-year students in the joint programme of Military Physician,  established in cooperation with Naval Academy N. Y. Vaptsarov and Military Medical Academy - Sofia. Greetings to them and to all of the first-year students were addressed by the Commander of N.Y. Vaptsarov Naval Academy, Flotilla Admiral Prof. Boyan Mednikarov.

Official guests at the event were the District Governor of Varna Mr. Stoyan Pasev, the Mayor of the city Mr. Ivan Portnih, the Chairman of the Municipal Council Mr. Todor Balabanov, the Deputy Mayor of Varna Mr. Kosta Bazitov, as well as representatives of the state and local authorities, heads of health, educational and social institutions, professional organizations, media and Varna citizens.

The new academic year was also opened at the Affiliates of MU-Varna in Sliven, Veliko Turnovo and Shumen, where students are being trained in the programmes of Nursing Care and Midwifery.

The modern training facilities for preclinical and clinical training, the state-of-the-art interactive education, as well as the sports, culture and entertainment facilities attract thousands of applicants to MU-Varna from all over the world every year. The Medical University in Varna is oriented towards modern and innovative training methods. A huge emphasis is placed on innovation and introduction of information and communication technologies in the training process. New forms of training, which are in line with the best contemporary global practices, are constantly being sought for. Investments in the educational infrastructure and the clinical training facilities also rank MU-Varna among the leading preferred medical universities not only in Bulgaria, but also in Europe and worldwide.
