152 Young Doctors from 8 Countries Received Diplomas from Medical University - Varna

152 young doctors received their diplomas from Medical University - Varna at an official ceremony at the Festival and Congress Centre. 25 of the alumni finish their higher education with honours, while the top student of class 2015 is Dr. Nesrin Mehmedova. Along with their Bulgarian colleagues, representatives of Germany, Sweden, Norway, the USA, Greece, Turkey and Cyprus, trained in the English Programme of Medicine, received their diplomas as well.

 "Dear colleagues, I am looking at you here, now, in front of me, and I see the change more and more. And it is not only the togas and caps with tassels that make you look different. The change I see today is not just for a single day. The change caused by a mighty power - the power of education and knowledge! The power of education to transform, to change our lives and destinies, to change the pace of human evolution! And it is precisely this power that I see in you today," said in his congratulatory speech the Rector Prof. Dr. Krasimir Ivanov. "You, as erudite people, who in a few minutes will receive their Doctor of Medicine Diplomas, will face many open doors, plenty of opportunities and paths. Whatever path you may choose, you are ready for it! For you are the alumni of one of the best universities in the country - Medical University - Varna!"

By tradition, one of the most solemn moments at the ceremony was taking the Hippocratic oath. The alumni uttered the oath, repeating the words after the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Radoslav Radev.

All 25 outstanding students of the 49th Class of the Faculty of Medicine received a money prize from the University and a plaque "Outstanding Student of Class 2015". 15 jobs in the Departments of Psychiatry, Neurological Diseases, Nephrology, Surgery, Hematology, Radiotherapy and ER were provided by St. Marina University Hospital in Varna. Money prizes for three outstanding students were provided by the Mayor of Varna Mr. Ivan Portnih and the Bulgarian Medical Association. Two annual fellowships for specialization at Hadassah University Hospital in Jerusalem, Israel, were provided by the president of International Medical Assembly Bulgaria Prof. Dr. Krassimir Metodiev.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dimitrichka Bliznakova from the Department of Pediatrics and Medical Genetics and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Branimir Kanazirev from the Department of Propedeutics of Internal Diseases became the winners of the Prize "Favorite University Teacher of the Alumni". An award for entire contribution to the creation and development of the activities of the Student Council at MU-Varna, during 2009-2015, and strengthening the authority of the academic structure was awarded to Boris Andonov.

A musical greeting to the graduates was performed by the participant in the Child Eurovision Krisiya Todorova, who was warmly acclaimed by the audience at Hall 1. Among the official guests at the event were Metropolitan Joan of Varna and Veliky Preslav, representatives of the Municipalities of Varna and Burgas, CEOs of Varna hospitals, representatives of regional and professional organizations. Congratulatory addresses to the academic management of the University and the alumni were sent by the Prime Minister of Bulgaria Mr. Boyko Borisov, the Minister of Health Dr. Petar Moskov, the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Mrs. Lilyana Pavlova, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Health Dr. Daniela Daritkova, Her Excellency Irit Lillian - Israeli Ambassador in Bulgaria, the head of MHAT in MMA-Varna Col. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ivaylo Vazharov, the Executive Director of MHAT-Dobrich Dr. Trifon Yordanov, the Rector of Medical University - Pleven Prof. Dr. Slavcho Tomov and others. A congratulatory greeting on behalf of the Mayor of Varna Mr. Ivan Portnih was delivered by the Deputy Mayor Mr. Peycho Peychev.
