156 young doctors graduated today from the Faculty of Medicine at Medical University - Varna at an official ceremony, held at Hall 1 of the Festival and Congress Centre - Varna.
The 48th graduating class of Varna medics finishes with two winners of the most prestigious Achievement Award for graduates Golden Hippocrates. The statuette with the image of the Father of Medicine was awarded to the best students of Class 2014 Dr. Yanko Yanev and Dr. Ralitsa Pancheva by the Rector Prof. Dr. Krassimir Ivanov, along with money prizes from the University and the Mayor of the city of Varna.
For the first time this year, the international students from the English language training programme in Medicine at MU - Varna also received their diplomas. Representatives of Germany, Turkey, Greece, Canada, the USA, Japan, Nigeria, Poland, Cyprus, Switzerland, Great Britain were among them.
In his academic speech, the Rector of MU-Varna Prof. Ivanov emphasized the crucial importance of the choice that every one of us makes. "Completing your higher education at the Faculty of Medicine, you have already answered the eternal Hamlet's question: To be or not to be: So BE! Be the professionals you have been prepared to be! Be the humane, true and good people that our world needs so much!" said the Rector. In perfect Bulgarian, Dr. Soh Fuzhdiuara from Japan congratulated all the colleagues and lecturers.
Money prizes were given by the Rector to all 27 excellent students of Class 2014 of the Faculty of Medicine. Two one-year specialization scholarships in Israel were provided by the International Medical Association – Bulgaria, and the Oncology Centre in Shumen announced three vacancies for graduating medics. Money prizes were provided for three of the excellent students from BMA - Varna.
The graduates' special award "Favorite Lecturer of Class 2014" was given to Assoc. Prof. Miglena Georgieva from the Department of Pediatrics and Medical Genetics and Dr. Asya Konsolova from the Department of Propedeutics of Internal Diseases. The former president of the Student Council, the 6th year medical student Boris Andonov, who was announced to be this year's winner of the National Award "Student of the Year 2014", held annually by the National Student Council Representation, was awarded with a prize for the promotion of the authority of student self-government. The special prize "Newlyweds of Class 2014 of the Faculty of Medicine" was awarded to a couple of graduates who got married during their studies.
Among the official guests at the graduation ceremony were the Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Vanyo Sharkov, who personally made an address to congratulate the graduates, the members of Parliament Krasimira Atanasova and Georgi Kovachev, the Deputy Mayor for Health and Social Affairs Dr. Lidiya Marinova, the Vice Consul of the Consulate General of Turkey in Burgas, Mrs. Ayshen Yozsoy, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at MU - Pleven Prof. Dr. Asparuh Asparuhov, members of the Board of Trustees at MU-Varna - Prof. Kamburov, Prof. Temelkov and Prof. Kisyova, the President of BMA - Varna Dr. Svetlin Mitev, the Chief Commandant of MHAT-Varna Col. Dr. Ivaylo Vazharov, the Executive Director of St. Marina University Hospital - Varna Prof. Dr. Zhaneta Georgieva, as well as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Inselspital Bern and Spital Netz Bern AG – Switzerland Mr. Holger Baumann.
A musical greeting to the graduating young doctors was made by the winner of plenty of awards and prizes at international competitions and festivals for classical guitar Boyan Doychev.
