Senior Assistant Professor Mariya Radanova from the Department of Biochemistry, Molecular medicine and Nutrigenomics was awarded with the third prize and a Certificate for the best poster presentation within the 4th National Congress of Immunology. The awarded poster entitled "Single nucleotide polymorphism in C1q gene cluster is associated with Lupus nephritis in Bulgarian patients" was developed together with a team from the Clinics of Nephrology, Dialyses and Transplantation in the University Hospital "St. Marina" - Varna and the Clinics of Nephrology in the University Hospital "Tsaritsa Ioanna" at the Medical University of Sofia.
Dr. Radanova reported about the founded by the team correlation between the presence of the GG genotype in single nucleotide polymorphism rs172378 in the genes of the first component of the activation of the complement system in the conventional way - C1q and the increased risk of lupus nephritis development, as a manifestation of a systemic lupus erythematosus in the Bulgarian population.
The IV National Congress of Immunology was held on October 2nd – 5th, 2014 in the Golden Sands. The event was organized by the Section "Immunology" at the Bulgarian Union of Scientists and the Bulgarian Association of the Clinical Immunology. The first International Immunology School, sponsored by the European Federation of Immunological Societies – EFIS and the European Journal of Immunology, took place within the Congress on October 2nd, 2014.
