Retaining and supporting young and capable scientists, who have remained to work and develop themselves in our country - this is the major aim of the Young Scientists Awards, which the Union of Scientists in Varna has awarded for the first time this year. The official award ceremony was held on 20th June, at First Auditorium of MU - Varna, within the framework of the Annual Meeting of the Union of Scientists - Varna. The prize winners in the field of "Health and Sports" are Chief Assist. Prof. Oskan Bahidinov Tasinov, PhD, from the Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Medicine and Nutrigenomics and Chief Assist. Prof. Hristiana Rosenova Madzhova-Chokanova, PhD, from the Department of Conservative Dentistry and Oral Pathology. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vladimir Sashov Zhechev from the University of Economics - Varna was awarded in the field of “Social, Economic and Legal Sciences”.
From the beginning of March till mid-April this year, the Union of Scientists - Varna held a competition for the "Young Scientists Prizes" in two scientific fields - "Health and Sports" and "Social, Economic and Legal Sciences". To be eligible, a participant must possess Master’s Educational Qualification Degree, acquired not more than 10 years ago, and do research, and scientific and educational work at a higher educational institution and/or a scientific organization.
After examining the documents received, the Commission admitted seven candidates to the competition procedure. On the basis of the documents submitted and the pre-developed evaluation criteria, the members of the section committees made a complex assessment of the candidates' presentation.
During the meeting of the Union of Scientists in Varna, the Chairperson of the Union Prof. Dr. Violeta Yotova, DSc, (Deputy Director of Scientific Project Activities at the Research Institute at MU – Varna) presented the Activity Report of the Union for 2018. Prof. Dr. Margarita Bachvarova acquainted the members of the meeting with the Activity Report of the Control Board for 2018. Prof. Dr. Violeta Yotova also presented the draft budget for 2019, which was unanimously adopted by the attendees. The proposals for awarding Prof. Zoya Mladenova, Prof. Zlatislav Stoyanov, Prof. Tsveta Zafirova, Prof. Veselin Peychev were also voted.
