The 24th Annual Meeting of the Regions for Health Network of the European Office of the World Health Organization took place from 10th to 12th June 2018 in Gothenburg, Sweden.
83 representatives of 32 health regions from 26 countries took part at the meeting. Varna Region, which is the Bulgarian member of the WHO Network, was presented by Assoc. Prof. Antoaneta Tsvetkova, Chairperson of the Municipal Healthcare Commission and Associate Professor at the Medical College of MU - Varna and Assoc. Prof. Antonia Dimova – Vice Dean of the Faculty of Public Health at Medical University - Varna.
The Meeting was devoted to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030 and the opportunities for the regions to work towards achieving them through public health policies. The importance of public health policies for achieving each of the sustainable development goals was the underlying focus of the discussions. The participants were able to share and discuss their experience in implementing health policies in reducing health inequalities, improving the environment, investing in health as the driving force of prosperity for everyone, and improving school education as a means of improving health.
