The Third Varna Summer School "Introduction to Emergency Care" Was Opened at MU-Varna

The Varna Summer School "Introduction to Emergency Care" was opened on 8th July (Monday) at MU-Varna. This free of charge initiative, organised by the University, under the auspices of the Rector Prof. Dr. Krasimir Ivanov, has been conducted for the third consecutive year and is intended for fifth-year medical students and intern-physicians.

During the course the participants will acquire the skills of working in life-threatening situations. The programme is divided into a theoretical and practical part. The training takes place at the Simulation Centre and the Emergency Departments of University Hospital "St. Marina", at the Centre for Emergency Medical Care and the Emergency Department at MHAT "St. Anna" - Varna. The course continues till 19th July, and finally all students are going to receive Certificates of Participation.

The event was opened by the Chair of the Organising Committee of the Summer School Prof. Lora Georgieva from the Department of Social Medicine and Healthcare Organization, who wished the participants to be physicians not only by the diploma but also by calling.

The Rector of the University Prof. Dr. Krasimir Ivanov personally congratulated the participants and organisers of the event. Prof. Ivanov emphasised that emergency medicine is inherently a clinical specialty that physicians should exercise in modern specialised emergency centres.

Among the guests at the event was also the Deputy Mayor of Varna, Mr. Kosta Bazitov, who pointed out that the modern society could not exist without medical care. He also said that in the medical profession one should go with small steps, step by step, following the instructions of the experienced mentors. In support of Prof. Ivanov's words, Mr. Bazitov concluded that the emergency care in Bulgaria had not lived up to the standards required, and that was why the society relied precisely on the young physicians who were going to pass the training over the following few days.

The Chair of the National Association of Emergency Healthcare Workers Dr. Desislava Katelieva, one of the main lecturers at the Summer School, reminisced briefly about her professional path in medicine, linked invariably with Medical University - Varna and the emergency departments at the Varna hospitals, assuring the young doctors, that they had made the best choice by choosing to study exactly at the Medical University of Varna. In gratitude for the implementation of the initiative for the third consecutive year, Dr. Katelieva gave the Rector of MU-Varna a watch, a symbol of the precious time that emergency physicians observe strictly in their practice.

"The most precious thing is Life! So take care of it!", with these words Prof. Georgieva put an end of the official opening of the Third Varna Summer School "Introduction to Emergency Care", after which the training module started.
