MU-Varna Participated at the 13th World Meeting of Bulgarian Media

A delegation of Medical University - Varna participated at the 13th World Meeting of Bulgarian Media, held from 4 to 8 October 2017 in Chisinau, Moldova. This year the meeting, which has been organized annually by the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA), gathered together not only journalists, publishers, writers and public figures from all over the world but also the management bodies of 7 Bulgarian universities and representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science. The Vice Rector of MU-Varna Prof. Todorka Kostadinova took part in a discussion on higher education in Bulgaria, and Velina Markovska and Ivelina Feschieva presented the institutional media in the panel: "The Role of Media for a More Educated World". All the events at the meeting were shot by the video operator of MU-Vi.tv Lazar Elenkov.

The Rector's management bodies discussed topics related to higher education in Bulgaria and the realization of young specialists after graduation. During the meeting Prof. Maria Furtunova, Director, Higher Education Directorate of the Ministry of Education and Science pointed out that the lowest unemployment rate and the highest level of application of higher education in Bulgaria were reported in the professional fields of Medicine, Dental Medicine and Pharmacy, followed by the military and IT specialties. Education and business - a knowledge-based economy and new education platforms were the other topics discussed by the participants at the Chisinau meeting. Prof. Todorka Kostadinova, Vice-Rector at MU - Varna, said, "The fact that all medical specialists - doctors, dental practitioners, pharmacists and nurses find such a good realization proves that the Bulgarian medical education is competitive and at a very high level." Prof. Kostadinova appealed to all Bulgarian media around the world to promote the mobility of lecturers and students and popularize the achievements of the Bulgarian scientists.


The other participants in the panel, which was dedicated to higher education in Bulgaria, were Prof. Dr. Lyuben Totev - Rector of the University of Mining and Geology, Prof. Dr. Lyudmil Georgiev from New Bulgarian University, Prof. Dr. Plamen Iliev - Rector of the University of Economics - Varna, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ivan Marchevski - Rector of D.A. Tsenov Academy of Economics, Prof. Dr. Hristo Bondzholov - Rector of "St. St. Cyril and Methodius" University of Veliko Tarnovo, Prof. Dr. Velizara Pencheva - Rector of Angel Kanchev University of Ruse and Prof. Hristo Beloev, DSc - Chairman of the GA, Angel Kanchev University of Ruse.

During the last plenary day, dedicated to the role of media for a more educated world, Velina Markovska presented the essential role of media products at MU - Varna and University Hospital "St. Marina" - Varna – an Internet website, social media official websites and the University TV as a source of reliable and accurate information on medical, healthcare and medical education issues in Bulgaria and a reliable partner of the publishing and electronic media in their everyday work. Ivelina Feschieva presented the MU -Vi.tv programme blocks and underlined that the TV at MU-Varna was aimed at two audiences - doctors, undergraduate and postgraduate students and patients. She pointed out the different programmes intended for the two audiences and emphasized that the Bulgarian language lectures for foreign students at the University were very important because after the third year their practices were conducted in Bulgarian hospitals.


Representatives of national electronic and publishing media from Bulgaria, as well as Bulgarian media from the USA, Canada, Austria, Italy, Greece, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Moldova, Romania, Cyprus, Spain, Ukraine and others, took part at the meeting.

Within the forum all participants attended the official opening of the second BTA Press Club outside the borders of Bulgaria in Taraklia by the President of Moldova Mr. Igor Dodon, the Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria Mrs. Iliana Yotova and the General Director of BTA Mr. Maxim Minchev , as well as the exciting ceremony for the signing of the tripartite consortium agreement between the University of Taraklia, "St. St. Cyril and Methodius" University of Veliko Tarnovo and Angel Kanchev University of Ruse.
