Lecturers from MU-Varna Took Over the Management of St. Anna University Hospital - Varna

The Assistant Professor from the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at Medical University-Varna Dr. Nikolay Kolarov is the new CEO of St. Anna University Hospital–Varna, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Boryana Varbanova from the Department of Pediatrics took over the post of the Chairperson of the Board of Directors after the former director Dr. Galen Shivarov retired in order to focus on his scientific career.

Dr. Kolarov is known to the patients as one of the best specialists in Orthopaedics in Bulgaria, a surgeon who successfully copes with cases requiring hip or knee replacement surgery, musculoskeletal system traumatology, shoulder or revision prosthetics. Medical students know him as a lecturer, ready to ignite interest in Orthopaedics and Traumatology during his lectures and exercises. Among the medical circles he is known for his participation in international surgical teams for shoulder or revision prosthetics, applying a bloodless method.

Dr. Kolarov graduated in Medicine from MU-Varna in 1989 and specialized Orthopaedics and Traumatology. He has been working at St. Anna University Hospital since 1995 and has been an Assistant Professor at the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at the University. Dr. Kolarov has specialized joint replacement surgery and periprosthetic fractures in Belgium, Germany and Switzerland, and since 2006 he has been certified to perform these procedures individually. Currently he is preparing his dissertation thesis entitled "Unipolar Prosthesis in Femoral Neck Fracture in Elderly Patients".

 


Assoc. Prof. Dr. Boryana Varbanova is a competent and reputable doctor in Northeastern Bulgaria, a specialist in Pediatrics, Pediatric Rheumatology and Clinical Allergology. She is a founder of Pediatric Rheumatology in Varna, turning the seaside capital into a leading centre in the country. She is a member of the European Association of Pediatric Rheumatology, and since 2015 Assoc. Prof. Varbanova has been a national coordinator in Pediatric Rheumatology in Bulgaria.

Assoc. Prof. Varbanova has specialized in the biggest pediatric hospital in the UK Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, which is the leading training base in Europe in Pediatric Rheumatology, Autoimmune Diseases, in the central laboratory of the Dutch Red Cross, as well as short-term specializations in Germany and France.

Assoc. Prof. Varbanova graduated in Medicine from MU- Varna in 1985. At present she is the head of the Clinic of Pediatrics at St. Anna University Hospital and an Associate Professor at the Department of Pediatrics at MU-Varna.

She feels really happy when the students choose the difficult and responsible specialty of Paediatrics for their professional path in life.
