The Department of Cardiac Surgery at St. Marina University Hospital Celebrates its 10th Anniversary with a Scientific Conference


The Department of Cardiac Surgery at St. Marina University Hospital in Varna celebrates its 10th anniversary on 15 June 2015. On the occasion of this anniversary Training and Research Sector of Cardiology and Rheumatology at Medical University – Varna, St. Marina University Hospital and Heart-Lung Association organize a scientific conference at the hospital on 12 and 13 June. All leading cardiac surgeons from the country and abroad, who have contributed to the establishment and development of Cardiac Surgery in Varna, are expected to be guests at the event. Many of them are going to deliver lectures and share their expertise.

A workshop with mitral and aortic valve surgery simulators will be held on the ground floor of Vladimir Ivanov Hall, at St. Marina University Hospital during the days of the scientific conference. The workshop on 12 June will start with a presentation "Mitral Valve Repair - When and How" by the head of the Department Assoc. Prof. P. Panayotov. ​

Following the trends in the development of Cardiac Surgery, the Department has expanded and improved its surgery activities over the years, maintaining a high European and world level. Over the past 10 years 5700 operations of adult patients with heart diseases have been performed. A team of experienced cardiac surgeons, cardiologists and anesthesiologists provides a year-round opportunity for emergency and planned surgical treatment, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
