An orientation meeting for the international summer internship of students from I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University was held today, 4th July 2016, at the conference room of Medical University – Varna. Moscow students were greeted with "Welcome" by the Vice Rector for International Cooperation, Accreditation and Quality - Prof. Todorka Kostadinova, PhD, the Head of the Department of International Cooperation - Aneta Dokova, PhD, and the Summer Internship Coordinator at MU-Varna - Siana Boynovska.
For two weeks Russian interns will be trained at the academic and clinical facilities, under the direct supervision and guidance of leading professors in their respective fields. The team of the Department of International Cooperation is in charge of the overall organization of the summer internship, and the coordination of its implementation is conducted by the Deans of the Faculties of Medicine, Dental Medicine and Pharmacy.
Summer internship has been held for sixth consecutive year so far, under a contract for bilateral academic cooperation with I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University. The programme was launched in 2011 with 10 students in Medicine and Dental Medicine, and this year the interns are 22 students from the Faculties of Medicine, Dental Medicine and Pharmacy.
With each passing year, the interest of Russian students has been growing, although we should mention the fact that the competition among them is extremely high. They need to go through a hard selection in several stages – applying with documents, an exam in English and an interview, and finally the best among more than 400 applicants are selected for internship at MU-Varna.
Furthermore, the scope of cooperation between the two universities has been expanding. Besides the traditional summer internships, participations at scientific forums and conferences, scientific and practical exchange have already been organized, the opportunities for sharing training materials and guest lecturers, and the cooperation between the museums of the history of medicine, and many other areas have been discussed.
After the end of this internship, a group of students from MU-Varna from the same faculties are going to have a two-week summer internship at I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University as well.
