The new 2016-2017 academic year at Medical University–Varna was officially opened today with a religious ceremony for health and God's blessing, served by Father Dimitar and Father Yasen from the Varna and Veliki Preslav Metropolis. The Rector Prof. Dr. Krasimir Ivanov welcomed the students, who stepped over the threshold of the University for the 55th consecutive year. "Success has its beginning! This is where your pursuit of knowledge and solid medical background begins. Have the audacity to follow your heart and intuition," said Prof. Ivanov to nearly 1 200 first-year students, who begin their training this year.
Representatives of the first-year students, who have achieved the highest scores at the admission exams, majoring in Medicine, Dental Medicine, Pharmacy, Health Management, Nursing, Midwifery and Assistant Pharmacist, took the traditional for the first day of the academic year at MU-Varna Oath of "Dedication to Medicine". Two of the outstanding medical students from Class 2016 put white coats on their new colleagues to symbolically make them a part of the medical community.
The new academic year was also opened at the Affiliates of MU-Varna in Sliven, Veliko Tarnovo and Shumen, where students are trained in the majors of Nursing and Midwifery.
Wishing a strong tailwind, Prof. Ivanov, following the ancient Bulgarian custom, spilt a copper vessel of water in front of the doorstep of the University. Representatives of 44 countries from around the world are going to be trained at Varna Medical University this academic year.
Official guests at the event were the District Governor Mr. Stoyan Pasev, the Deputy Mayor for Social Affairs at the Municipality of Varna Mr. Kosta Bazitov, members of the Board of Trustees - Prof. Dr. Temelko Temelkov, Prof. Dr. Dimitar Kamburov and Prof. Dr. Krasimira Kisyova, the CEOs of St. Marina University Hospital and St. Anna Hospital Prof. Dr. Valentin Ignatov and Dr. Galen Shivarov, the chairperson of the Board of Directors of St. Anna Hospital Dr. Nikolay Kolarov, the Rector of TU-Varna Prof. Eng. Rosen Vasilev, representatives of professional organizations and media.
