Prof. Dr. Valentin Ignatov is the new Rector of Medical University "Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov"-Varna. He was elected by a majority of the members of the University General Assembly.
The Rector up to the present time Prof. Dr. Krasimir Ivanov delivered an activity report of MU-Varna during his exceptionally successful two management terms of office. He emphasised on the substantial increase in the number of students, the implementation of important and large-scale projects for the construction and modernization of the facilities - construction of the building of the Faculty of Pharmacy, launching new programmes of study and affiliates in the cities of Sliven, Veliko Tarnovo and Shumen, opening new simulation training centres, increasing the practical facilities, introduction of innovative training methods, high accreditation evaluation and excellent quality of training. Currently, a total number of 5 879 students are trained at MU-Varna, 1 700 of whom are foreign citizens from 49 countries.
Prof. Dr. Krasimir Ivanov was elected President of the General Assembly, and Prof. Dr. Rosen Madzhov and Prof. Dr. Viliyan Platikanov were elected as Vice-Presidents.
The positions of the Control Board on the implementation of budget 2019 and the draft budget for 2020 were presented. The members of the mandate committee and the selection committee, as well as members of the Control and Academic Boards were also elected.
Prof. Dr. Valentin Ignatov graduated from the First Language School in Varna in 1977 and the Faculty of Medicine at HMI-Varna in 1986. He was awarded a Doctor's Degree in 2005 and a Master's Degree in Health Management in 2011. He was an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Department of General and Operative Surgery at MU-Varna from 2005.
Since 2013 he has been a Professor of Surgery at the Department of General and Operative Surgery at MU-Varna. He is the President of the Association of University Hospitals in the Republic of Bulgaria. He has held the position of Executive Director of UMHAT "St. Marina" - Varna since 2016 until now. He has completed additional professional qualifications and specialised courses in Bulgaria, Ireland and Germany. Prof. Ignatov is a lecturer and examiner in Surgery of students at MU-Varna with 126 hours of annual auditorium workload. He has 205 scientific publications, 59 of which have been indexed in world-famous databases (Web of Science/Scopus). He is an author and co-author of international monographs. He speaks fluent English and Russian.
Prof. Dr. Valentin Ignatov has specific surgical skills in endoscopic technique, laparoscopic surgery and surgical endoscopy. He has been distinguished with numerous prizes and awards.
