At an Official Ceremony Prof. Dr. Valentin Ignatov Received the Rector’s Regalia from Prof. Dr. Krasimir Ivanov

Prof. Dr. Krasimir Ivanov presented the symbols of the Rector's status to the newly elected Rector Prof. Dr. Valentin Ignatov at an official ceremony on 11th March at MU-Varna.

In the presence of the Rectors of the University Assoc. Prof. Dr. Georgi Marinov (1987-1990), Prof. Dr. Temelko Temelkov (1999-2004) and Prof. Dr. Anelia Klisarova (2004 - 2012), Prof. Ignatov donned the Rector's toga and necklace. He also received the University mace and was symbolically affiliated to the academic traditions of MU-Varna.

The Rector's necklace has a round shape which symbolizes the infinity of scientific knowledge. The entire medallion is made of bronze. The logo of Medical University - Varna is engraved in the centre of the medallion: an open book in the temple of knowledge with the medical emblem in its centre - a staff with a serpent entwined around it. The foundation of the medallion is made of blue stone symbolizing human ideals. They are fundamental principles in the medical education and in the medical profession. The Rector's toga is in red and black colour. It is worn with a scarf in the colour of cherry blossoms.

The University mace is crowned by two crisscrossing spheres and a serpent in the centre symbolizing medical knowledge. Its origin is associated with the ancient symbol of medicine - a staff and a serpent entwined around it, and also with the ancient legends about the wisdom and omniscience of the serpent. The top of the staff is a jade ball - the stone of eternity, strength and knowledge, which are the genuine values of medicine.
