Students at the Shumen Affiliate Had a Meeting with the Academic Management of MU-Varna

On the occasion of the forthcoming Students' Holiday, 8th December, today there was a meeting between the Academic Management of Medical University - Varna and the students and the academic staff at the Shumen Affiliate. The meeting was attended by the Rector of MU - Varna Prof. Dr. Krasimir Ivanov, the Vice Rector for International Cooperation Prof. Todorka Kostadinova, the Assistant Rector Eng. Deyan Grancharov, the CEO of University Hospital "St. Marina" Prof. Dr. Valentin Ignatov, Assoc. Prof. Emanuela Mutafova, Dean of FPH until May 2018, representatives of the administrative units of the University. The event was held at the conference hall of one of the training facilities of the Shumen Affiliate - Complex Oncology Centre - Shumen. Representatives of the Municipality of Shumen were the Deputy Mayor for Social Policy and Health Care Dr. Svetla Markova and the Deputy Mayor for Education and Culture Mr. Nayden Kosev.

The Director of the Shumen Affiliate Prof. Dr. Sonya Toncheva presented the achievements of the academic staff and the students at the Affiliate as well as the numerous student activities over the past year. Prof. Ivanov expressed satisfaction with the results and wished the students new achievements and a lot of joy during the upcoming holidays. He promised to continue supporting the development of the structure and thanked everyone – the academic staff, the municipality and the students for giving life to the training facilities and for their contribution to filling in the gaps in the health care system. Mr. Kosev underlined the contribution of the Municipality of Shumen and pointed out the significant role of the educational institution for the region.

The students had the opportunity to ask questions, related to the Erasmus+ Student Mobility Programme. During the next year 13 of them will be ambassadors of MU – Varna in Turkey, Macedonia and Estonia, working at various medical institutions in Bitola, Edirne, Kastamonu, Tallinn and Izmir for two months. The students thanked for the excellent training conditions provided by MU-Varna.

The Affiliate of MU-Varna opened its doors in 2015. Currently, 179 students are being trained in the "Nursing Care" and "Midwifery" Programmes. Every year the educational establishment enjoys a growing popularity among the applicants. Throughout this year's admission campaign four people competed for one place in each of the two Programmes of study.
