The University Centre for Maritime Health at MU-Varna Has Conducted Its First Certified Courses

The University Centre for Maritime Health (UCMH) at MU-Varna conducted the first two courses entitled “Training Course for Instructors” and “Assessment, Examination and Certification of Seafarers” from 18th to 30th June 2019.

Lecturers and employees with extensive experience from Medical University - Varna took part in the courses, and the sessions were conducted by the head of the Centre captain Todor Yotov.

During the training in the “Training Course for Instructors” module, the participants got acquainted with basic issues regarding planning, organising and conducting training courses for seafarers.

During the second course “Assessment, Examination and Certification of Seafarers”, the participants focused on topics related to the evaluation process, examination and certification of various categories of seafarers, lecturers and assessors, targeted at assessing the knowledge gained and the required standards of competence.

At the end of the two courses, all course participants successfully passed internal exams and received the respective certificates from Executive Agency “Maritime Administration”.

The courses have been developed in accordance with Model Courses 6.09 and 3.12 of the International Maritime Organization, the requirements of 1978 STCW Convention, as amended by Directive 2008/106/EC, as amended by Directive 2012/35/EU, and the requirements of Ordinance No 6 on Competence of Seafarers in the Republic of Bulgaria.
